Drop Off & Pick Up Procedures

We appreciate your commitment to ensuring a safe and efficient drop-off for your children. Please remember that our school doors will open at 9 a.m. each morning, with classes beginning at 9:15 a.m.  Arriving promptly at this time allows us to manage the flow of students and ensures a smooth start to the school day.

Cascade View is a walking only school; no bus transportation is provided except for programming between SVSD schools. The front area of the school is for bus loading, staff parking, and disabled parking. We have reserved spots in the main parking lot along the sidewalk for parents and school visitors.

For student drop-offs, we request all parents who drive to school use our drive through drop-off area from Douglas Avenue. This is a supervised area and an easy in and out. The front parking lot is for parking only; it is not a drop-off area. Parents using this lot should park and safely escort their student to the front entrance of the school. ALL students in grades 1-5 should be dropped off using the drop off loop in the back of the school, accessible on Douglas Avenue.

School safety remains a priority for Cascade View. We strongly encourage families to have a conversation with students who ride bikes or scooters and that they should always ride on sidewalks, look both ways when crossing the street, and wear a helmet. In addition, be mindful of our many student walkers and go slow when passing other students or families.

Please also remind your child not to engage in conversations with adults they encounter while walking to and from school. While we are fortunate to have a supportive community, we want to maintain a safe environment for everyone. If your child ever encounters any unusual or concerning activity, encourage them to report it to a trusted adult immediately, whether it be a teacher, staff member, or yourself.

To support our recess supervisors in monitoring the safety of all students, please refrain from coming up to the fence and visiting with your children and/or other students during the school day. As we teach and review recess expectations, students are reminded to stay back from fences and play in visible areas on the playground.

We ask that our families follow these guidelines throughout the year to ensure the safety of our students and staff.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminders:

  • Front Parking Lot: Parking in this area is for our staff, visitors and volunteers. Please do not use it as a drop-off zone unless your child needs help unbuckling or you need to check in at the main office.
  • Drop-Off Loop: Families driving to school are encouraged to use the drop-off loop off Douglas Avenue for dropping off and picking up students. This loop is efficient, and families are usually in and out within approximately five minutes. Students should enter and exit vehicles from the passenger side.
  • Pedestrian Safety: Please help us model safe pedestrian and bicycle behavior. Use designated crosswalks when walking to and from school. We've received concerns from families of people crossing SE Ridge Street in unmarked areas, causing traffic challenges and becoming a safety issue.
  • Driving Safely: Drive slowly in our parking lots and drop-off loop. Be mindful of students and families walking to and from vehicles.
  • Front of School Dismissal: As the weather improves, please do not to stay and play in the front courtyard once your student has found you. Moving to another location allows us to safely monitor dismissal and ensure everyone gets picked up in a timely manner. Families are welcome to return and play on school grounds after our dismissal clears, around 4:00 pm.

Other General Reminders:

  • Busy Intersections: The crosswalks on Douglas and Ridge Streets are busy during drop-off and pick-up hours. Please use extra caution and be mindful of our safety patrol leaders.
  • Traffic Turns: Avoid making U-turns and other traffic maneuvers that may cause backups.
  • YMCA/Community Parking Lots: These lots are not CVES designated vehicle drop-off or pick-up areas and the parking lots are not supervised by school staff.
  • Front of School Drive-Through: The drive-through in front of our school, parallel to the bell tower, is for community center vans and school buses only. Please do not use this entrance during drop-off and pick-up times.
  • Change of Go-Home Plans: Communicate any changes to your student's regular go-home plans with their teacher. If you have a day-off change, please call the front office in addition to notifying the teacher to help ensure your child receives the message. Emails to teachers may not be read before dismissal, so it's important to inform the office.
